It’s  summer — time for The Best Ultimate League in the country, DiscNW’s Summer Master’s League.  For men and women players over 30, this league continues to be a favorite among “veteran” and “newbies” alike, distinguished by mellow, gender-friendly and fun play. Best. Ultimate. Ever.

Information

Basics:

  • All games will be played on Monday evenings at 6:30pm
  • The season starts on June 6 and concludes on July 25
  • There will probably not be regular-season play on July 4th (the Monday of 4th of July weekend - though, we observe our traditional "Bring A Ringer Day" then, details coming soon...)
  • We use a pod system for rosters again this year.  See below for details about this format.
  • Players over 30 may register for the league
  • Women play in the league, but unlike regular co-ed leagues, there is no gender ratio enforced.  We normally average a 5/2 gender ratio.

Fields:

All regular-season games will be played in Seattle. Most will be on the grass Sports Meadow at Magnuson Park in Seattle - which will have painted ultimate field lines for the summer season.  Games on Monday, July 25 will be played on fields at Montlake and Magnuson.  Here is our 2016 Summer fields permit for Seattle.

Registration:

Online registration opens April 11.  The registration fee is $57.54 (including sales tax).  Payment must be made online or by mailing a check to DiscNW, Attn: Masters Hat, PO Box 85112, Seattle, WA 98145 within 7 days.  After seven days, registrations will be placed onto the wait-list.  The league accepts the first 160 paid registrations.  The payment deadline is May 27th.

Format:

In order to increase the variety and fun for a short league, we use a "pod" system.

Rosters - The league places players into half-team pods, where each pod has 8-10 players.  Every attempt is made to balance pods by talent, experience, numbers ...

Games - Two pods will combine to form one team for a game.  For example, first week match-ups might include Pods A & B against Pods C & D.  On the second week it might be Pods A & C against Pods E & F.

Buddies - As with the Men for All Seasons tournament,  friends are encouraged to register together for the league.  If you want to play together as a pod (up to 10 players), please name the pod's captain as your "Buddy" when you register.  Players without buddies/pods will be assigned to pods by the league.  Groups that sign up as a pod with less than full-strength will be assigned additional players.  16 pods will comprise the league.

Free Agent Players - Players accepted into the league after close of registration may be designated as a "free agent".  Free agents play where needed (to fill pod shortages on a week-by-week basis.)  Being a free-agent is a great way to play with virtually everyone in the league.

Rules

We will be using the 11th Edition of the Rules of Ultimate for the league.
