DiscNW uses 175g discs for its elementary school league, but USAU Manager of Youth and Education Programs Mike Lovinguth thought that coaches might enjoy a unique opportunity to experiment with lighter and smaller discs for young players. If you are interested in the opportunity below, contact Mike at
USA Ultimate is currently looking for volunteers to serve as members of its Flight Test Pool (FTP) for U-12 discs (145 gram discs designed for use by youth aged 11 and under). FTP members must be over the age of 18 and have regular contact with at least 5 disc throwers aged 11 and under. Test discs, from manufacturers seeking USA Ultimate approval for their disc, will be sent to FTP members as they are submitted to USA Ultimate. FTP members are expected to organize throwing sessions for these discs with at least 5 age-appropriate throwers and to gather feedback from their observations and interactions with these throwers to evaluate the discs. A specific feedback survey will be provided to the FTP members to provide guidance on factors to evaluate. This survey will also be used to provide a final evaluation of the disc for the purpose of granting or rejecting approval.
FTP members will be notified of the impending arrival of test discs and will be expected to test the discs and provide their evaluation within the given timeframe (typically about 2 weeks). The number of test discs expected to be received for evaluation each year typically ranges from zero to three. Testing can occur at any time of year.
Please print the field permit and bring it to your games. If there is another user on the field, you can show this as proof of our reservation.
