LEAGUE SPIRIT OF THE GAME CHAMP: Broadview Thomson K-8
Broadview Thomson had a perfect spirit score of 5 for the regular season. This is Broadview Thomson's first year winning the league Spirit trophy. Thank you, Broadview Thomson, for your improvement and for the consistent respect that you showed to your opponents and officials throughout the season.
LEAGUE SPIRIT OF THE GAME HONORABLE MENTIONS: Pinehurst K-8 and Jane Addams K-8 6th Grade
These two schools also had perfect spirit scores of 5 for their regular seasons. Unfortunately, there is only one spirit trophy, but these teams also deserve praise and recognition for their strong sportsmanship. This is Pinehurst's fourth consecutive year with the highest spirit average in the league. Meanwhile, the Jane Addams 6th grade team made a splash with a perfect 5 in its inaugural season. The League Coordinators thank you for your hard work and positive attitudes!
Spirit scores for the season have been made visible, so all teams can see how they fared over the regular season.
A DIVISION CHAMPION: Aki Kurose A
Mercer A Blue, seeded 6th, avenged a lopsided, regular-season loss to 3rd-seeded South Shore in the quarter and handed 2nd-seeded Pinehurst its first loss of the season in the semi. But top-seeded Aki Kurose defeated Mercer Blue 10-6 in the final, taking home the SPS Fall Middle School League trophy for the second consecutive year.
A2 DIVISION CHAMPION: McClure A
After a difficult, 1-point loss in a windy, low-scoring A division play-in game marred McClure A's perfect record, the team rebounded by seizing and keeping the top seed of the A2 playoff division. McClure finished with a resounding 11-6 final victory over 2nd-seeded South Shore B, giving McClure its second consecutive league championship (B division champions in 2012).
B DIVISION CHAMPION: Madison A2
Patfhinder A, seeded 5th, battled its way into the championship game by toppling 4th-seeded Whitman and handing top-seeded Salmon Bay B its first loss of the season. But 2nd-seeded Madison A2, not to be outdone, ended Pathfinder's Cinderella streak with an unequivocal 11-6 finals victory.
C DIVISION CHAMPION: Denny A
It looked like 5th-seeded Hamilton B might roll through the C division bracket, after avenging regular season losses against 4th-seeded Whitman B in the quarters and 1st-seeded Eckstein B in the semis. But 3rd-seeded Denny was eager to show where it belonged after League Corodinators underseeded the team in the first half of the regular season. Denny muscled its way through the C division bracket with three gritty, 1-2 point victories, knocking off 2nd-seeded Aki Kurose in the semfinal and defeating Hamilton B 12-10 in the championship game. This is an especially exciting victory for Denny after the team tied for 3rd place in the 2012 C division playoff bracket.
D DIVISION CHAMPION: Orca K-8
After a tough loss in a C-division play-in game, Orca took the top seed of the D playoff division. The team squeaked through the semifinal with a 1-point victory, then defeated 2nd-seeded Hamilton C 8-7 in a thrilling championship game.
6TH GRADE A DIVISION CHAMPION: Aki Kurose C2
In similar fashion to its A team's run in the B division, the 4th-seeded Pathfinder 6th surprised top-seeded, undefeated Salmon Bay 6th with a 6-3 victory in the semifinal. But 2nd-seeded Aki Kurose C2 nipped Pathfinder's hopes in the bud with a straightforward, 11-2 finals victory, giving the school its second championship for the season.
6TH GRADE B DIVISION CHAMPION: Mercer C
Mercer's fourth team, seeded 1st, gave the school its second finals appearance and first championship for the season, with an unambigous, 11-2 victory over 2nd-seeded McClure 6th.
6TH GRADE C DIVISION CHAMPION: Denny 6th
Bottom-seeded Jane Addams 6th tripled its wins for the season with two victories in the playoffs, including avenging a lopsided, early season loss to top-seeded TOPS 6th in the semifinals. But 2nd-seeded Denny 6th facilitated a perfect playoff finish for the school by defeating Jane Addams 6th 8-6 in the final.
