Coaching Staff

DiscNW is pleased to have the entire coaching staff return for the 5 YCC teams. All coaches were hired on a two year basis and 2017 will serve as their final year of their current contracts.  Young Seattle ultimate players are very lucky to have so many great coaches in our community.

U20 Girls - Shannon O'Malley

Shannon returns for 2017 and hopefully will help lead our U20 Girls team to the podium again. Shannon has many years of coaching and club experience. Shannon has coached YCC, DiscNW camp, Seven Hills and Team Ultimate Camp.  Shannon was also a former youth player in the Seattle area and played for Seattle Riot.

U20 Boys - Steve Gussin

Steve is returning as a U19 coach this year for the second year as head coach after several seasons as the assistant coach.  Steve has coached in several DiscNW leagues and is a former player for the Seattle Rainmakers of the MLU.

U20 Mixed - Taylor Kanemori

Midway through last season Taylor took over as head coach for the Mixed squad after Frank Nam stepped down. Taylor began as a youth player here in Seattle, spent time as a player on the US Girls team, played at Colorado College, prior to returning to Seattle and playing for Seattle Mixtape. Taylor has since retired as an elite player but is excited to continue giving back to our youth through coaching.

U17 Girls - Heather Ann Brauer

Heather Ann will once again coach the U16 girls squad, looking to repeat as champions.  She has been involved with the Ingraham girls team, has coached in DiscNW leagues, and is one of the founders of the GIRLS' ULTIMATE MOVEMENT.  Heather Ann has been coaching with the Seattle YCC Program off and on for almost a decade and Heather Ann is excited to continue to help shape and mold the leaders of the future.

U17 Open - Reid Koss

Reid returns as the head coach of this team as they seek to win their 6th title in a row at YCC.  Reid is the head coach of the HS boys' team at The Northwest School and is part of the coaching staff for Seven Hills.  He has played for WWU Dirt, Voodoo, and currently plays for Seattle Sockeye. Reid will hopefully also be representing the USA at the 2017 World Games in Wroclaw, Poland this summer.
