Hat Event Policy

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to establish a minimum age for participation in DiscNW hat events.

Background

In hat leagues and tournaments, volunteer captains are assigned to manage basic team logistics. The participation of minors in these events introduces unique safety and liability concerns. We do not have adequate time or resources to provide training to volunteer captains on managing these safety and liability concerns.

Policy

Participants in DiscNW hat events (leagues, tournaments, clinics, etc.) must be at least eighteen (18) years or older by the first day of the event unless the event is specifically designated as a youth event (for example, MoHo or Youth Club Leagues).

Exceptions

The Event Coordinators, with agreement from the Executive Director and the Director of Youth Operations, may make exceptions to the rules stated in this policy.

Important factors regarding exceptions include, but are not limited to, on-site parental supervision of participating minors, attendance of trained coaches at the event, and historical practices of the event.  Adhering to these examples does not necessarily guarantee an exception will be granted.
