Seattle Ultimate Coaching Series 2009
Info
The first course in Seattle designed to teach the skills necessary to coach beginning and intermediate Ultimate Frisbee (a.k.a. "Ultimate").
Participants will receive instruction from some of the best Ultimate coaches in the nation, written materials created by those instructors, and 1-on-1 mentoring by an experienced Ultimate coach.
This course was made possible in part by grants from the Ultimate Players Association (UPA) and Seattle Parks and Recreation.
Who should attend?
Any person who wishes to teach one of the fastest-growing sports in the country! The Seattle Ultimate Coaching Series is best suited for individuals who have fewer than 2 years of experience with coaching the sport of Ultimate. Here are examples of people who will enjoy the Seattle Ultimate Coaching Series:
- Elementary school, middle school, or high school PE teachers.
- Novice to intermediate coaches of teams participating in DiscNW and Seattle area youth leagues.

What does the series include?
This course will consist of five 3-hour sessions. Sessions will include both classroom and hands-on components, taught by a variety of instructors. We have a gym reserved for the hands-on portions, but if the weather is nice and space allows, we'll head out to the fields. Refreshments will be provided!
Topics of the series include rules, throwing, and basic/intermediate offensive and defensive skills and strategies. But this is not an exhaustive list; the program will mold to fit the needs of its participants. Scroll down to view the "A La Carte" boxes below to learn the topic and instructor for each session.
Each student will also have a 1-on-1 mentor who is an experienced Ultimate coach. Your mentor will be available by phone and email for any questions you have throughout the course of the series. (S)he will attend one of your team's practices--either to co-lead with you or to observe you and provide feedback on your performance--whatever meets your needs.
