Applications are now being accepted for those seeking to join the DiscNW Youth Advisory Council
DiscNW is pleased to announce the formation of a new committee dedicated to informing the direction of youth ultimate in Seattle. The DiscNW Youth Advisory Council will represent coaches, players and parents and communicate directly with the youth director.
The YAC will organize community summits, surveys and other forms of community outreach to craft recommendations that will help guide decisions by DiscNW regarding youth ultimate.
The committee will also work to engage the broader youth ultimate community, through volunteerism and philanthropy, as we continue to address concerns around accessibility, gender equity, funding and field advocacy.
Additionally, the council will serve as an important ad-hoc sounding board for DiscNW staff as issues arise. For example, we may seek guidance about changes to eligibility rules, feedback about potential new business partnerships or look for additional input regarding our ongoing discussion about our relationship with USAUltimate.
Council members will also support the DiscNW Board of Directors and Fundraising committee in procurement and promotional activities for the Fall Bid Auction.
This is an advisory committee. Suggestions from this committee will help guide decisions at all levels of the organization. The committee will have no budgetary authority.
A total of 15 council seats will be filled by 5 youth players, 5 coaches and 5 parents. Positions will be for one year. DiscNW reserves the right to dismiss members at any time.
Applications from those looking to serve on the committee will be accepted beginning December 14th, 2015. The application window will close January 25th, 2016 and we will announce the committee members on February 1st 2016.
The committee will begin meeting in February. Monthly meetings will follow. Attendance at every meeting is not required but would be appreciated.
These meetings will take place in the evening, most likely on a weekday. Meetings will be chaired by the Youth Director based on an agenda created by suggestions from the committee.
These meetings will be open to the public with time set aside in each meeting for public comment.
Goals in the first year will include:
-Plan and implement a series of Youth Summits and surveys to determine the primary concerns of the youth ultimate community. Sample topics to discuss in 2016 might include YCC team purpose and goals, use of smaller disc use in ES leagues, input during the strategic planning process and changes to league policies.
-Create a document that highlights these core concerns and suggests possible solutions or action items for the committee and DiscNW staff.
Applications will be reviewed by the DiscNW Youth Director, Executive Director, DiscNW Accounts Manager and members of the Youth Club Task Force. Emphasis will be placed on creating a diverse team of energetic and engaged community members that represent the many needs and passions of the Seattle youth ultimate scene. We seek individuals who express a flexible and outgoing nature and a desire to help shape the future of youth ultimate.
